May 25 General Meeting
Our next General Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 25 at 10 AM in the Carmack Room at the Central Resource Library, and will feature the topic:
Eastern European Genealogy Research
Presented by Iveta Blahutova
Learn which countries are considered part of Eastern Europe and when they were established, as well as when and
why people emigrated from these countries. Explore the history of the region and the Slavic people, their settlements, and their three ethnic groups. Learn how to start and focus your research, explore the records available, and which U.S. websites may be helpful as well as how to overcome a language barrier.
Iveta Blahutova is a Genealogy Research Analyst in the Midwest Genealogy Center (MGC) in Independence, Missouri. She has been a presenter to many groups on ethnic genealogy. She also moderates the German SIG. lveta is a graduate of the Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, Faculty of Law. She embraced this direction in her career because of her interest in history, languages, old manuscripts, and etymology.
This JCGS meeting is free, and is open to the public.

FamilySearch Affiliate Library
The Johnson County Library is now a FamilySearch Affiliate Library! What This means that when you come into any of the library’s 14 branches, you will have access to approximately 400 million images currently unavailablehe public outside of an affiliate library or a FamilySearch center.
If you have questions about using FamilySearch stop by our Genealogy Desk at the Central Resource Library where you can speak with a helpful volunteer Monday - Saturday from 9-4 pm.

JCGS volunteers are available Monday - Saturday from 9-5 at the Genealogy Desk at the Johnson County Central Resource Library for general questions. For those looking for a little extra help with either Basic Genealogy or DNA & Genetic Genealogy we also offer free one-on-one sessions that can be booked in advance.

Basic Genealogy sessions are available most Tuesday mornings. This is not for brick wall or advanced research help.
